100 Mod Masterpieces Vol. 3 (Compiled by 6T's Soul Searcher)

 

Pues ya vamos a superar la mitad de esta serie, un verdadero cursillo acelerado de música mod gracias a nuestro amigo 6T's Soul Searcher, y como no podía ser de otra manera, sigue la tónica general marcada en anteriores volúmenes.

Realmente es fácil que se  cree polémica sobre la inclusión o exclusión de ciertos artistas, pues las fronteras de los estilos son muy finas, y como en todo lo que publican aquí todos los amiguetes, tienen una total libertad y siempre hay que tomarlo como una visión personal y nada categórica.

Muchos de estos artistas los encontraréis en recoìlaciones de r'n'b británico, beat, freakbeat y otros estilos de la época, aunque creo que nos debiéramos olvidar un poco de las etiquetas para no volvernos locos con ellas.

Al fin y al cabo, supongo que cada mod de la época tendría su música favorita y seguro discutían por ello en mas de una ocasión, cosa que ha ocurrido y seguirá ocurriendo en todos los estilos hasta la actualidad.

Pero bueno, para no alargarme mas, os dejo con uno de los escritos de "6T's Soul Searcher" con los que nos ameniza esta serie y además con un título que se las trae, aunque me imagino que habría bastantes mods que escucharían a los Beatles.

The early  R&B scene was in London,until it exploded in late 62 there was only a small following for R&B and the only bands in London were The All Stars ( Cyril Davies) and Alexis Korner's band. Other were drawn to these two and passed through and on to form grpups of their own.The bands that the kids saw in their local club or dance hall were not usually Mod band.

They didn't look like Mod. Sometimes one or two of the bands would be Mods but it wasn't usual.The Mods liked the bands because they played the sort of music they liked.The kids in dance hall didn't get any lead in fashion from the groups ,as they were usually much smarter and better dressed than the people on stage

Let me write a few lines about the Jamaican scene in England in the early sixties.

Ska surfaced on the London Mod's soundtrack thanks to a crossover with R&B,as immigrants Jamaican  musicians found work in the Capital's Jazz or R&B Bands. Guys like Rico Rodriguez and Ernest Ranglin slotted in to a club scene bossed by the likes of Georgie Fame and Zoot Money or Alexis Korner. Around that time The Roaring Twenties opened in Carnaby Street,to play exclusively Jamaican music, pulled in a large Mod clientele.
