Pues hoy tenemos una colección de las buenas, buenas de verdad, y curiosamente no ha tenido el éxito que realmente se merece, pues es de las que está bien currada y además toca bastantes estilos, todos girando alrededor de la british-psych.
Empezamos: Esta colección se publicó en vinilo entre 1999 y 2003, y está dividida por sellos discográficos. Antes de seguir, decir que de los dos primeros volúmenes solo se hicieron mil copias, por lo cual son difíciles de encontrar nuevos, aunque en ebay los he visto usados a un precio decente, el tres y el cuatro si se encuentran, pero a precios elevados si son nuevos. Pues vamos a ver que nos depara esta colección:
El primer volumen está dedicado al sello President, una de las grandes alternativas del monopolio Deca-Deram, con buenísimas bandas, a destacar "Rhubarb, Rhubarb", "Gass Company" o "Explosive" entre otras, pero advertir que los que tengais el disco "Sometimes I Wonder" que sacó unos pocos años después tambien "Tenth Planet" en Cd, se pueden saltar este primer volumen, pues todos sus temas están incluidos en el citado "Sometimes I Wonder", que por cierto ha sido posteado en este blog, por lo cual os remito a el para tener mas información. El segundo volumen esta compartido por dos sellos: "Transatlantic" y "Big T", el primero alcanzó bastante fama por su apuesta por la música folk británica, quizás fue uno de los mas importantes en esos años. Sus abanderados fueron como no "Pentangle" que en este volumen cuelan un par de canciones, afortunadamente de las mejores que tienen. Encontraremos a "1984" con dos apabullantes temas, bien diferentes, el primero de puro pop-psych y el segundo totalmente en plan folk, aunque con algun toque psych, de lo mejor de la serie.
Reseñar tambien a "Ola" una de las pocas bandas no británicas, concretamente daneses con su grandielocuente "What A Way To Die" en esa onda que pusieron de moda los "Procol Harum", este tema ya lo tuvimos por aquí en algún viejo "Tommentón". y no saltarse el impresionante "The Wizard" de los "Purple Gang".Los volumenes tres y cuatro están acaparados por el sello "Spark", quizás con bandas menos conocidas pero de una gran calidad. Para mi destaca sobre todas las demas "Fruit Machine", con un montón de temas a cual mejor, teniendo en cuenta que sacaron solamente tres singles y uno solo en America, da un buen porcentaje.
En estos volumenes encontraremos también a "A New Generation" una interesante banda con temas mas poperos, pero deliciosos, que a veces me recuerdan a los "Bee Gees". Y para terminar una joya a cargo de "John Carter & Russ Alquist" Titulada "The laughing man".
