Hoy tengo el placer de presentaros una gran colección de música de Garage, que como tantas otras cosas descubrí por casualidad, pues buscando información sobre una banda, fui redirigido a esta página: "Downstate Sounds", donde había una impresionante colección de bandas de garage de Illinois, la mayoría desconocidas para mi, pero que desde la primera escucha me quedé impactado, pues eran realmente buenas. 
El título "Best of Downstate Illinois Garage Rock 1965-1968", me llamo la atención, pues para la mayoría de los no estadounidenses, Illinois se limita a Chicago, donde había muy buenas bandas, pero esta visión es diferente, pues excluye a las bandas de esa ciudad. El termino "Downstate" no me queda demasiado claro, pero seguro que Chris nos lo explica.
Ya os he dicho que esta colección esta repleta de grandes canciones, y prueba de ello es que he presentado a un buen puñado de ellas en mi serie "Tommentón En La Cuadra", y enlazándolas con la página antes citada.

Illinois, the Land of Lincoln, is the largest state in the American Midwest; greater in size than the country of England. Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, although they loom large in the minds of the world, occupy only a small northern corner of the state. The rest is DOWNSTATE.
This collection (and my entire website) attempts to shine a light on the music and bands from overlooked and forgotten places. Away from the big city and far from its bright lights, something wild grew in the rural villages and river towns of Downstate Illinois in the 1960’s.
Like so many other places in America, the sounds of teenage angst began to bubble up from the basements and spill out of the garages, gymnasiums and legion halls. Often isolated from the larger music industry, these bands recorded in makeshift studios and released their music on obscure local labels. Still the energy and raw power of these recordings continues to reverberate more than half a century later. I humbly present you with 50 examples of garage rock from the Heartland of America... The Best of Downstate Illinois 1965-1968.
