Hoy traigo una cosa muy especial e inédita, gracias de nuevo al amigo Rob Kopp, con el que desde que nos conocemos, no hace demasiado tiempo, no hemos parado de intercambiar música, proyectos e ilusiones. Aparte de ello, también es muy curioso las muchas afinidades musicales que tenemos, todavía recuerdo cuando estábamos trabajando en sus "Dutch Nuggets" y yo le comente que mi canción favorita de su país era el "Subject of My Thoughts" de "Sandy Coast", a lo cual me respondió además documentadamente que también era la suya.También coincidimos en nuestra gran afición por P.F. Sloan y no hace demasiado, presentó por aquí su "Take me for what I'm worth" que tuvo una muy buena acogida.
En lo único que discrepamos y parecemos irreconciliables es en la quinta estrella que para mí le falta a "In Touch" de "The Otsiders" y que el cree que con cuatro ya esta bien, aunque esta cuestión no ha quedado zanjada y seguiré insistiendo.
Así que cuando me mando el trabajo que hoy os presento, "In The Woods" y que refleja un concierto de Sloan junto a Duane Jarvis, y me propuso publicarlo aquí para tener un enlace permanente en la web, poco o nada había que meditar, así que entusiasmado acepte de inmediato.
Es un concierto que rezuma sinceridad y esta pausa nostálgica que tienen estos grandes artistas cuando alcanza una madurez, alejada ya de sus tiempos de mas fama, muy intimista e ideal para escuchar al lado del fuego en las noches de invierno, pero bueno, no me lio mas y el mismo Rob os cuenta mas cosas de esta grabación.

Earlier this year I got into contact with Japanese P.F. Sloan fan Yoshi Takeuchi. We exchanged a lot of material. He has sent me 19 CDR’s with 540 Sloan songs and I have sent him the content of 25 MC’s, that have been converted to MP3’s.
While Googling for Sloan songs we were still missing, I recently stumbled upon Facebook’s only P.F. Sloan group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/5648139459. I thought thiswould be THE place to spread P.F. Sloan material.

The next thing I wanted to share there were soundboard recordings of the “In the woods” concert that P.F. Sloan & Duane Jarvis did on October 16, 2007 at Dorpshuis de Furs in Lage Vuursche in The Netherlands.
In 2007 the organisation had sent me a very special version of the “official” CDR . In total there are 11 copies, but onlyon my copy the first song Take me for what I’m worth lastst 14 seconds longer, because Phil is dedicating that song to me and my wife. The other 10 CD’s immediately start with the song.
Beside this special CDR, the organisation had also sent me 2 large unedited MP3’s of set 1 and set 2 (the master files). While the official CDR’s only contained music (except for my copy), themaster files containedall the announcements and other talking by Phil before and after the songs. I’ve splitted those large MP3’s into separate MP3’s for every song. During that proces I found out that Phil was mentioning our names before “Let me be” as well; because that’s not on the official CDR, I had completely forgotten that.

Problem 1: Because I wasn’t allowed to spread all this without the permission of the “In the woods” organisation, I asked them for that permission and they generously gave it to me. Thanks for that! So I placed the concert in the Facebook group on February 26.
Problem 2 : I can easily send the material to myself with WeTransfer to get a download-link, but those links are only valid for a week. That’s why I asked my friend José if he was willing to place the files of this “In the woods” concert on his excellent blog as well, so there would be a permanent link. José is a big P.F. Sloan fan as well, so he said he would gladly do that.

Spreading a few things about one of the best songwriters of all time is the least we can do, isn't it? Como fan y amigo de Phil,agradecer este post un monton.Me explico;tuve la suerte de ver a PF y Duanne en el concierto que dieron en Terrasa,creo que formaba parte de esta gira tambien.Despues de el concierto,tuve la suerte de hablar unos minutos con Phil mientras nos tomabamos una cerveza y nos fumabamos unos cigarros...Aquel fue un momento especial,que aun guardo como un tesoro.Esos minutos hablando de todo un poco son de esos recuerdos que ya te acompañan para siempre.Habia tenido cierto contacto con el a traves de el tiempo desde que estuvo en Galicia en el 2001;le habia mandado un fanzine,me habia enviado una maqueta,me envio tambien un collage espectacular y de vez en cuando nos escribiamos.Contar con esa amistad era un orgullo para mi.He escrito bastante sobre el en los blogs que tengo y tal,pero eso no es lo mas importante.Lo importante es que haya gente como vosotros que siga dando a conocer a PF Sloan y sus composiciones y todo lo que significo y lo que significa para un monton de gente.Por eso me he decidido a escribir este comentario.Escuchando este material seguro que me voy a emocionar recordando momentos de mi vida en donde la musica,las letras y la personalidad de Sloan ha sido importantisimas.Una vez mas,gracias por publicar este material!! Hay un trato un poco injusto con los compositores como Sloan, que han conseguido mucho éxito con canciones que cantan otros... pero que solo hacen famosos a los otros. Quiero decir que hay cientos de grandes canciones cuyos autores pasan casi desapercibidos porque la mayoría de la gente no se para a ver quién ha compuesto esa canción. Y luego, como en el caso de este señor, su carrera en solitario es discreta, como si sus mejores canciones ya hubiesen sido cantadas por otros y con eso ya fuese suficiente. En fin, que cualquier homenaje al señor Sloan es bienvenido.
Sandy Coast y los Outsiders... eso es picar muy alto...

Tienes toda la razón al decir que fué de los mejores compositores aunque se conocen mas sus canciones interpretadas por otra gente.
Solo se conocen pocos discos suyos de los sesenta y luego, poca cosa mas.
Bueno, en este disco se ve claramente que tiene una sensibilidad especial.
Voy a hacer una recogida d firmas para que Rob le ponga una estrella mas a "Touch", cuento con la tuya.

Sloan group https://www.facebook.com/groups/5648139459, but there I'm going to post a lot of demos and other gigs by P.F. Sloan, soon. I have 25 cassettes with Sloan-material. Last month those cassettes finally have been converted to 50 MP3's (one for each side) and at the moment I'm in the middle of a splitting process: split those 50 MP3's into MP3's per song. I also have a CDR of his gig at Felipop, the Felicia Popfestival 2001. When you like to hear that one as well, you can email me rob.kopp@xs4all.nl and I'll send you a WeTransfer-file.

Un comentario acerca de los discos en solitario de PF Sloan...¿ Y a mi que me parecen maravillosos ? Y no solo hablo del "Songs Of Our Times" o del "Twelve More Times",tanto el "Measure of Pleasure",1968,como el "Raised On Records",1972,me parecen increibles!Pero bueno,entiendo que son discos muy cercanos para mi y que en su momento pasaron desapercibidos.Saludos.
