Pues un nuevo repaso en esta serie "roots", dedicada a buscar las originales de las canciones que han versioneado los grandes artistas de la década de los sesenta. Una serie que me gusta mucho y además muy instructiva, y al estar montados los volúmenes con la versión original primero y la versión después, se pueden apreciar mejor todas esas influencias.
Hoy le ha tocado el turno a "The Animals", y para ello he empleado solo las grabaciones originales, tanto en singles como en long plays, y he desechado los bonus que posteriormente salieron en Cds, así como rarezas, piratas, sesiones de BBC y demás cosas publicadas posteriormente, y abarca desde sus primeras grabaciones como "The Alan Price Combo", "The Animals" y finalmente "Eric Burdon And The Animals", hasta 1969.
Banda totalmente influenciada por la música negra y que creo que han versioneado a casi todos los grandes del blues y el r'n'b, algunos de ellos con unas cuantas canciones, como son desde "Ray Charles", "Jimmy Reed", "John Lee Hooker", "Chuck Berry", Bo Diddley", "Muddy Waters" y un largo etcétera como podéis ver en el track-list, aparte de artistas de soul o de rock and roll, y estilos afines, salpicado por algún tema que se aparta de la tónica general, como por ejemplo el "Hey Gyp" del Donovan.
Pues creo que no hace falta mas presentación, la música que podréis escuchar lo dirá todo.

Thanks Jose. The Animals have always been one of my favourite bands. Eric's voice is one of the best. I have followed Alan's path also with Georgie Fame. Hilton was a great guitarist. Who can forget Chas discovered Jimi.
I have not listened yet but I'll bet Eric will compare well against the original versions. I am looking forward to hearing your sequencing.

Hello Jose. www.originals.be lists has I ain't mad at you (Don't be mad at me) by Bobby Merrill (1947) as original of Roberta (2/25).
and Gin house blues by Bessie Smith (1926)
and Screamin' Jay Hawkins already recorded a different version from I put a spell on you in 1949
and isn't the Phil Spector production (1966) of River deep mountian high by Ike & Tina Turner the original? I think the version you've included is a later version.

Otro gran trabajo de tu parte! The Animals y Eric Burdon han sido unos de mis preferidos de todos los tiemps tanto por sus originales que por sus covers fieles al estilo R&B. Para mi, muy interesante este trabajo porque no conocia un monton de los originales versionados por ellos como HOAGY LANDS - Baby Let Me Take You Home o ASHLEY AND FOSTER - Rising Sun Blues.
Seria interesante hacer otros "Roots" de bandas como Them (y sus sequitos), Pretty Things, Spencer Davis Group y otros Manfred Mann. Estoy dispuesto a participar.

The Joe Meek collection took a long time to put together, but I had the help of many friends. From the 1950s, a friend digitized records for me that are impossible to find anywhere. The rest was easier, as most of the songs aren't too difficult to find.
